南ウェールズ出身のヴォーカリスト。60sサイケ・バンドの代表格Eyes Of BlueやGlenn CornickとのＨＲバンドWild Turkeyでの活動が知られる。
1960年代半ば、Phil RyanとともにSmokestacksというローカル・グループでウェールズのニース周辺で活動。66年、同郷のグループEyes Of BlueにRyanとともに加入。メロディ・メーカー誌主催の「ビート・コンテスト」に優勝して人気グループとなる。
同時代を代表する好アルバム２枚を残してグループはBig Sleepに改名、さらにもう１枚のアルバムを制作した。70年にはEyes Of Blueの前座を務めていたStrawberry DustのアルバムにRyan、ドラマーJohn Weathersらと参加、同作はAncient Grease名義でリリースされている。
Big Sleep解散後にはWeathers、Strawberry DustのGraham WilliamsとともにJethro Tullを脱退したGlenn CornickとのＨＲグループWild Turkeyの結成に参加。Weathers、Williamsはすぐに離脱したが、その後もグループのフロントマンとして活躍し、74年の解散まで在籍し２枚のアルバムに参加した。
解散後はYesのRick Wakemanがソロ活動のために結成したグループThe English Rock Ensembleで活動、全世界で大ヒットを記録したライブ作品「Journey To The Center Of The Earth」や続く「The Myths And Legends Of King Arthur And The Knights Of The Round Table」の録音に参加して広く知られる存在となった。
1976年には元FacesのTestu Yamauchiが日本に帰国後結成したTestu & The The Good Times Roll Bandのギグに参加。その時の模様はライブ・アルバム「Live」として日本でリリースされた。
1986年にはDeke Leonardら南ウェールズの大物ミュージシャンをバックに配したソロ・シングル「Why ?」を発表。96年からは再編されたWild Turkeyでも活動した。2000年代には４人組グループSteel WaterやEyes Of Blue時代からの仲間Taff Williamsとのデュオでも活動。2003年には自身初のソロ・アルバム「GPH」を盟友Williamsや再編Wild TurkeyのドラマーBrian Thomasらの協力でリリースした。2013年６月22日、癌のため他界。
