1942年9月22日生まれ。スコットランド・グラスゴー出身。本名Brian O’Shea。サイケ・ポップのPlastic Pennyのシンガー。
1963年、アイランド出身のトランペッターChris Lamb率いるChris Lamb & The Universalsのメンバーとして本格的なデビューを果たす。当初はトロンボーン奏者兼シンガーで、米国人シンガーJim Reevesのバックバンドとしてツアーに同行。翌年にはロンドンに進出してDeccaとの契約を獲得、1965年６月にシングル「Mysterious Land」をリリースする。
多くのシンガーのバック・バンドとしてギグをサポート。1966年にはScreaming Lord Sutchのバック・バンドThe Savagesとしても活動したほか、同時期にはThe Circlesの変名でIslandでシングルもリリースしている。
1967年には新たにLarry PageのレーベルPage Oneと契約。同年末にバンドはPlastic Pennyに発展する。リード・シンガー、コンポーザーとして活躍、デビュー・シングル「Everything I Am」がいきなり全英6位の大ヒットを記録する。
1968年3月にはアルバムをリリースするが、同年半ばに脱退。ソロ・シンガーとして再出発を果たす。1970年代末までに多くのシングルをリリース。一方でセッション・シンガー、ソングライターとしても活動した。1970年にリリースされたロック・オペラ「Jesus Christ Superstar」ではAnnas役を務めた。
1971～73年にはセッション・ギタリストのAlan ParkerとThe Congregationというスタジオ企画グループで活動。アルバム2枚とシングル多数をリリース、ドイツなどでヒットを飛ばしている。
