1947年1月9日生まれ。南ウェールズ・ニューポート出身。本国を主体に欧州ジャズ・シーンで長年に渡って活躍したトロンボーン奏者。Soft MachineやKing Crimsonのアルバム参加でも知られる。
11歳の時にトロンボーンを始め、まもなく地元南ウェールズのブラス・バンドに加わり、演奏活動を開始。60年代に入ってジャズに傾倒、66年からThe New Welsh Jazz Orchestraのレギュラーとして活動。
1967年、新人ジャズ講座のバリーサマースクールに参加し、最優秀トロンボーン奏者に選出される。Graham Collierに認められ、翌年からCollierのセクステットに加入。傑作アルバム「Down Another Road」の録音に参加する。
68年の同講座ではKeith TippettやElton Dean、Mark Charigと出会い、Ian Carrの勧めでThe Keith Tippett Groupを結成。同グループでは2枚の良質なジャズ・ロック・アルバムをリリースした。
1969年には短期間ながらSoft Machineのレギュラーとしても活躍。中期の傑作アルバムとなった「Third」「Fourth」にゲスト参加したほか、70年にはKing Crimsonのアルバム「Lizard」に客演してロック・シーンでも注目される存在となった。
同時期にはChris McGregorのBrotherhood Of Breathやジャズとロックの融合を図った大作Centipede、Gary WindoやRobert WyattらとのSymbiosisなどに参加して精力的に活動。72年には再びDeanのグループJust Us、Elton Dean’s Ninesenseに加わり、70年代末まで共に演奏した。
77年には同じトロンボーン奏者のRadu Malfattiとの双頭プロジェクトNicraを組み、Ogunにリーダー作1枚を残している。60年代末にはミュージシャンとしての活動の一方で学業も平行して継続し、69年には理学博士号を取得。72年からは数学教師として教鞭をとりながら音楽活動を続けた。
1960年代末からジャズおよびロック・フィールドでも数多くのレコーディングに参加しており、セッション・ミュージシャンとしても成功を収めている。
