活動期間1970.5-1971.4
Blind Faithの解散後に渡米したEric ClaptonがDelaney & Bonnieとのツアーを経て結成。傑作アルバム「Layla And Other Assorted Love Songs」をリリース。
Delaney & Bonnieのツアーに参加したことでアメリカ南部音楽により強い影響を受けたClaptonは、同グループで一緒になったBobby Whitlock、Carl Radle、Jim Gordonの3人を誘って1970年春に結成。同年8月にリリースされたClapton自身初の同名ソロ・アルバムにはメンバー全員が参加している。
Duane Allmanのゲスト参加で有名な「Layla And Other Assorted Love Songs」を制作。表題曲「Layla」をはじめ、後のClaptonのレパートリーとなる多くの傑出した楽曲を含む名盤に仕上がった。
その後、メンバー間の不和が表面化。Claptonの精神状態も悪化するなど1971年、2ndアルバムの録音を前にしてバンドは空中分解を余儀なくされた。Claptonはこの後、ドラッグで長いブランクを経験する。バンド解散後の1973年には1970年の2枚組ライブがリリースされている。
